5 Black Women Writers in Science Fiction

When it comes to Science Fiction, many of the books on selves are written by white men or women. Many of these books have little to no people of color in their pages. When they are written, they are usually an afterthought or not written in much depth as their white counterparts. This in turn, causes underrepresentation for people of color. Children, teens and adults rarely have someone to look up to in books.


For someone like myself, who is a black women who such genres, I did not get the chance to grow up or be introduced to authors in this genre. But, with the age of the internet, I was able to research and search for black women who wrote in the Science Fiction genre. Here are five Black Women Science Fiction writers to check out.
